News Urns for the Walled Garden
2024 is bringing a present to Mellon Park. The decorative urns that have welcomed guests into the Walled Garden for decades are being upgraded. The original terra cotta urns were installed by the Mellon Family when the mansion was built, then replaced several years ago with cement copies.
Sadly, those copies had a design flaw and quickly developed cracks. Thanks to contributions from individuals and a local foundation, a new casting of the urns has been made and will better withstand our Pittsburgh weather.
The new urns are being installed now, and repairs are also being made to the stairs leading up to the garden.
The next time you visit the park, take a moment to enjoy the new urns and be transported back to the time when they were first installed.
The Friends of Mellon Park thanks everyone involved in keeping the park a treasure of Pittsburgh.

Mellon Park Blend
The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and Commonplace Coffee have announced the launch of Mellon Park Blend, the newest release in the longstanding coffee collaboration celebrating Pittsburgh’s parks. The partnership began in 2020 and included the five large regional parks.
Mellon Park Blend is the first to honor a community park.
Commonplace Coffee will host a Mellon Park Blend tasting at its Rockwell Park cafe location on Thursday, October 12, at 11 a.m. to celebrate the newest installment of the park series. This tasting is free and open to the public.
The custom blend is sold at commonplacecoffee.com, Commonplace Coffee cafe locations, and select Commonplace Coffee wholesale client locations. Commonplace will continue to donate a portion of the proceeds from sales of the custom blend directly to the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy.
