Arbor Day in Mellon Park is a family-friendly event sponsored by Friends of Mellon Park in partnership with the City of Pittsburgh and Tree Pittsburgh. WQED is our media sponsor. This event provides an opportunity to get to know Friends of Mellon Park, celebrate the environment, educate kids about the importance of caring for trees, animals, and greenspaces, give community groups a chance to showcase their work, and bring people from surrounding neighborhoods together to have fun in the park.

We are making every effort to have a waste-free event. Please bring a refillable water bottle. There will be water available.

Save the date…come celebrate!

Tree Care Challenge Grant

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Friends of Mellon Park tree care challenge campaign. With the money raised over the past two years, more than 30 trees were pruned and cared for on both sides of Mellon Park.

It is easy to take beautiful, old trees like the ones that grace Mellon Park for granted. Most of us are unaware of the amount of care trees require to live long and healthy lives. We're grateful for your support in helping to preserve this beautiful greenspace for generations to come.

Remarkable Trees of Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh’s remarkable trees have stories to tell. They’ve witnessed daily life and extraordinary events. Perhaps they’re at the bustling heart of our neighborhood, gathering us together under their shade. They may have planted themselves or been carefully selected. Whatever their origin, their species, or their appearance, these trees undoubtedly make our daily commute, jog, or dog walk so much better.

In creating a registry of Remarkable Trees, Tree Pittsburgh aims to celebrate and protect our City’s tree heritage and the many social, economic, environmental, and human health benefits trees provide to current and future residents. Trees can be nominated for many reasons, including historic or cultural significance, structure and beauty, importance to the urban ecosystem, or personal significance. Selected trees will be visited by an arborist and a care plan will be developed. Street trees are eligible!

We invite you to celebrate Pittsburgh’s trees. Nominate a Remarkable Tree.
