MELLON PARK ARBORETUM
Arbor Day Celebration
April 26, 2025
Join Friends of Mellon Park at the Mellon Park Arbor Day Celebration to commemorate the sixth anniversary of Pittsburgh’s first public arboretum. Each year, we hold a family-friendly festival to bring the local community together to enjoy our very special City park.
Lambs and Bunnies! and Piglets! Oh My!! And Trees!
And Arts and Crafts and Music! And so much more!
It’s the Arbor Day Celebration in Mellon Park and the sixth anniversary of the Mellon Park Arboretum.
On Saturday, April 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., please join Friends of Mellon Park and dozens of community organizations on the south side of the park for an outdoor family celebration where all are welcome. Rick Sebak from WQED returns as our emcee!
The oval in Mellon Park, uphill from the corner of Beechwood and Fifth Avenues, will be buzzing with activity.
There will be lots of animals, including a petting zoo from Quack A Doodle Doo and a bird of prey from the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania.
Looking for art and nature activities for children? We have that. There will be a kids’ fun run hosted by Fleet Feet Pittsburgh, a Pittsburgh City fire truck and firefighters, and Playnotes will offer a special interactive music program just for kids. Need more music? The Allderdice High School Dragons Marching Band will make a special appearance on the oval, and we will keep the party going with a kids’ karaoke singalong!
Picnics are encouraged, and there will be a food truck, coffee, and a donut stand.
There will be free trees from Tree Pittsburgh, and Brian Wolyniak from Penn State will offer guided tree walks in the park.
We will honor James Snow, Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, with a proclamation and plant a tree to honor his years of commitment to Mellon Park.
